3 min read
BTS’ vocalist Jin is slowly making his name as a solo artist. Known for his strong ballads and fun tracks, Jin’s music shows his range and emotional depth. His songs, including Yours, Abyss, or the light-hearted Super Tuna are comforting and highlight different facets of his artistry. He is also gearing up to release his first solo album on November 15, 2024. The singer is slated to explore themes of happiness and self-discovery. The project will feature six new songs that share his honest thoughts on happiness, marking an important step in his growth as an artist.

Join us as we look at Jin’s musical evolution and his contributions to the K-pop scene.

Tonight (2019)

Jin’s first official solo release Tonight, was included as a part of BTS’ annual anniversary celebration, Festa. Jin’s soft yet powerful vocals evoke deep emotions. He opens up about pain, longing, and missing someone ardently. While opening up about his inspiration for the song, Jin had once mentioned, “I wrote this song thinking of my pets. This is the first song written by me. I will work hard again and show a good song to ARMYs next time. Thank you, ARMYs.”

Abyss (2020)

Jin sung Abyss to highlight his struggles with mental health, imposter syndrome, and burn out. He released the song on his birthday, December 4, 2020. The singer also shared a blog post with his fans, noting the true meaning of Abyss. Jin explained that he didn’t want to share sad feelings with his fans. He opened up on feeling burnt out and wondered if it was alright to feel happy. BTS’ rapper RM wrote the chorus of this heartfelt song.

Yours (2021)

Jin as an OST singer? Yes, please. The singer lent his vocals to a ballad, titled Yours in 2021. The four-minute track from the popular drama Jirisan contain high notes and crescendos that underscore Jin’s expertise in the ballad genre. The piece effectively conveys the complex emotions experienced by the main characters while intricately connecting the narrative of the drama.

Super Tuna (2021)

It’s always interesting to listen to songs that artists create without the compulsion of social media, numbers, sales, or any related terms. Super Tuna by Kim Seokjin is about the singer admiring fishes, something we did not know we needed! The 1-minute-12-seconds song is a mix between trot and Eurobeat, which offers a different vibe than most commercialised K-pop tracks. If you think the track is hilarious, you should watch Jin dancing to it in the official music video. Super Tuna is exciting and reminds us that the BTS vocalist can ace both serious and not-so-serious songs with ease.

The singer recently made another video of the song, which is just as hilarious as the original.

The Astronaut (2022)

Jin poured his heart out in The Astronaut, which was released right before his military enlistment. The track remains steady throughout, with no climax in sight. It begins and ends, without any uncomfortable bridges or beat changes. Jin’s soft and inviting vocals make it an easy listen.

The Astronaut also marked Jin’s collaboration with Coldplay. In other words, it is a Coldplay track sung by Jin. The track is too long, almost five minutes, but does not feel repetitive.

Here are BTS’ Jin’s solo projects that are fan favourites. Continue reading …Read More
