Dune Prophecy Showrunner On Why Tabu’s Race Had Nothing To Do With Her Role
Tabu has carved her niche in the Hindi film industry effortlessly in all these years.
The actress has an impressive filmography to her name, and she keeps adding new achievements to its glory.
Fans and industry friends rejoiced at the announcement of Tabu joining Dune: Prophecy as a series regular. It’s a feat for any Indian actor to be a part of such a renowned project.
Tabu plays the role of Sister Francesca in the science fiction series.
The trend of casting Indian and South Asian talents in international shows has been quite prevalent in recent years.
IShowrunner Alison Schapner spoke to NDTV about why casting the actress had nothing to do with her race or how that impacts the plot.
She said, “I just think the Imperium would be the equivalent of a global world. So, it made sense for our cast to represent a diverse cast. We were looking for a Sister Francesca who could come in late in the series. But the specificity of Francesca, it was not about her race, per se, as it was about Tabu as an actor who we were thrilled to work with”
Speaking about what the search for the ideal Francesca looked like, she revealed, “We really needed somebody to come in and just claim their space, light up the screen and feel like we can take a minute to embrace somebody new this late in the game. And I think Tabu was somebody who has been on my radar for many years. I mean, I adore her.”
She also revealed how she’s been following Tabu’s work for a long time and that she fit the bill effortlessly.
She said, “She was just a really exciting idea to all of us because I think she has all of that. I think she’s just incredibly charismatic and a wonderful actor who could come and all of a sudden, be in scenes with Emily and embrace the cast. You just loved seeing her.”
Tabu has been winning hearts with her performance as Sister Francesca. The finale was aired last Sunday 22 December, 2024 on JioCinema.
