Kerala HC grants bail to Boby Chemmanur observes body shaming is wrong

The Kerala High Court has granted bail to Boby Chemmanur, who was accused in a sexual harassment case filed by a Malayalam movie actor. The complainant alleged that Chemmanur sexually harassed her when she attended one of his events as a guest. The actor was present at the inauguration of the Chemmannur International Jewellers Showroom in Kannur in August last year. Chemmannur, who is the owner of the showroom allegedly adorned her with a necklace and turned her without her consent in front of a large crowd.

He also allegedly made sexually suggestive remarks during the event and made derogatory comments about her on social media. He was arrested on January 8 this year and remained in judicial custody. Granting bail to him, the court observed that body shaming is not acceptable in the society, and everybody should be vigilant while making comments about others, irrespective of their gender.

Justice P.V. Kunhikrishnan observed: “Body shaming is not acceptable in our society. Comments about the body of a person as too fat, too skinny, too short, too tall, too dark, too black, etc. should be avoided. There is a sense that we are all “too something,” and we are all “not enough”. This is life. Our bodies will change, our minds will change and our hearts will change. Everybody should be vigilant while making comments about others, whether they are men or women.”
