Oscar nominated director Shaunak Sen on battling cancer
1 min readAll That Breathes director Shaunak Sen made a shocking revelation recently and shared with his fans and followers that he was diagnosed with cancer last year.
He revealed through a social media post that last October, be went for a checkup and found out that he has a small malignant tumour in the kidney. His post read, “Bit of an absurd update. October end, during a checkup for an autoimmune thing I got a shock diagnosis: a routine scan revealed a small malignant tumour in the kidney.”
Sen revealed that a part of his kidney was removed to get rid of the tumour. His post continued, “Utter bolt from the blue. No kidney-related symptoms, no hereditary history, no big history of drinking/smoking. Urgent surgery was advised. On the December 26, I had a partial nephrectomy, i.e. a part of my kidney was removed .”
Furthermore, he shared that the discovery was a blessing in disguise as it was caught very early at a low-grade stage. The filmmaker also revealed that his festivals including Durga Puja, Christmas, Diwali and New Year were all spent in a hospital room.
His industry colleagues including Abhishek Banerjee, Guneet Monga, Aditi Rao Hydari and Richa Chadha among others, took to the comment section to express their concern for the Oscar-nominated director.
