Shruti Haasan Gears Up For Her International Debut in The Eye

2 min read

Shruti Haasan is making her international debut as the lead in The Eye, a British psychological thriller directed by Daphne Schmon. The film will premiere in India as the opening movie at the 5th Wench Film Festival, founded by Sapna Bhavnani. This festival, which focuses on horror, sci-fi, and fantasy films, will take place from February 27 to March 2, 2025. Over time, it has become known for showcasing unique and bold storytelling.

The movie follows Diana, played by Shruti, who travels to a remote island to scatter the ashes of her husband, Felix (Mark Rowley), who drowned there. What starts as a journey for closure turns mysterious when she learns about the ‘Evil Eye’ ritual—an ancient practice that might bring Felix back but comes at a frightening cost. The film was shot in Athens and Corfu, using the stunning yet eerie locations to add to the suspense. The landscapes play a big role in making the story even more intense and emotional.

Shruti shared her excitement about being part of a film that explores grief, emotions, and the supernatural. She also talked about how special this project is because it was made by an all-women-led team and focuses on sustainable filmmaking—two things she strongly supports. She believes more diverse voices should be involved in filmmaking and loves stories that mix deep emotions with supernatural elements. For her, The Eye is a film that leaves a lasting impact.

Director Daphne Schmon said The Eye is very personal to her since her family has roots in Corfu. She praised Shruti for bringing real emotion to Diana’s character, showing her grief, fear, and strength in a powerful way. The film, produced by Fingerprint Content, also made efforts to be environmentally friendly, setting an example for future films.

After being screened at international festivals like the London Independent Film Festival and the Greek International Film Festival, The Eye has already gained attention. Now, with its India premiere, it is expected to reach even more people and make a strong mark as a must-watch psychological thriller.
