Suzhal 2 Directors Pushkar-Gayatri On Shelved Demonetisation-Based Film

2 min read

Director duo Pushkar and Gayatri, best known for films like Oram Po, Vikram Vedha and more, are making headlines for their latest release – Suzhal: The Vortex Season 2. Around the show’s release, the two opened up about a shelved project. Sharing that their concept clashed with a real-life event, they recalled a funny incident.

Pushkar and Gayatri had a demonetisation-related film

In a recent interview with a leading news portal, Pushkar revealed that the duo was writing a film. The story ended with demonetisation in the climax. The film’s writing took place before demonetisation. However, six months later, the Indian Government announced that all banknotes of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 will be demonetised and will no longer be valid. The move was a part of the country shifting towards a digital or cashless economy. Pushkar said that they lost the ending of their film to a real-life event.

For context, the director duo’s shelved film was based on a demonetisation case from decades ago. This was when C Rajagopalachari, the former Governor-General of India, demonetised the Rs 1000 note. The chapter was eventually lost in history.
