BAFTA 2025: Payal Kapadias All We Imagine As Light loses to Emilia Perez

All eyes were on Payal Kapadia’s All We Imagine As Light at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts Awards on Sunday night. However, the film lost to Jacques Audiard’s Emilia Perez. The Spanish musical which is embroiled in a controversy currently won the Best Film Not in the English Language category.

Besides All We Imagine As Light and Emilia Perez, I’m Still Here, Kneecap and The Seed of the Sacred Fig were also nominated in this category. This is the second time after the Golden Globes 2025 that Payal Kapadia’s film lost to Emilia Perez.

On the other hand, Sandhya Suri’s Santosh, nominated for Best Debut by a British Director, Writer or Producer also failed to secure an award.

Talking of All We Imagine As Light, the film follows the life of two Malayali nurses in Mumbai and traces their friendship. It stars Kani Kusruti, Divya Prabha. Chhaya Kadam and Hridhu Haroon among others.
