Bengaluru police break silence on Ed Sheerans street jamming row

Ed Sheeran is currently in India for his +–=÷× tour (sic). The singer mesmerized his fans during his performances in Chennai and Bengaluru. However, Sheeran dealt with Bengaluru cops while conducting an impromptu jamming session on Church Street.

The artiste was interrupted by a cop, who asked him to vacate the place. After the incident, Sheeran shared a short statement, clarifying that he had the permission to busk and did not randomly turn up. However, the Bengaluru police don’t agree to the same. According to reports, an official explained that Church Street often experiences heavy foot traffic, and the decision was made to prevent any potential issues.

Shekar T Tekkannanavar, DCP Central Bengaluru, said, “A member among the event organisers came to meet me to seek permission for the Streetside performance at Church Street. I refused to give permission because Church Street gets very crowded. That is the reason he was asked to vacate the place.”

The viral videos from the incident show a disappointed Sheeran as an official unplugs his guitar. The audience react with shock, while some defend Sheeran and help diffuse the tension. The singer is now headed to Shillong for his next concert on February 12.
