Dev Patels Monkey Man faces release delay in India amid controversy

Dev Patel’s debut as a director, Monkey Man, is yet to release in India, mainly due to its controversial themes, although it hasn’t been officially banned. The film, which stars Indian actors like Sikandar Kher and Sobhita Dhulipala, has received positive feedback internationally but is still waiting for its Indian release.

Sikandar Kher shared his disappointment about the delay, explaining that many people have been asking when they can watch it. He said it’s frustrating, as he’s eager for his home country to see the work he’s proud of. If it were up to him, he’d release it right away.

Makarand Deshpande also revealed that a scene Dev Patel loved had to be removed for “political reasons.” Patel expressed regret over the edit but reassured Deshpande that he would still enjoy the film, even without the scene, which had been an important part of its philosophy

Even though it’s not available in India yet, Monkey Man has already made waves. It won the Rotten Tomatoes Best Action and Adventure Film award in 2024, and Dev Patel was nominated for Outstanding Debut at the 78th British Academy Film Awards.
