Ex-Fossils Member Chandramouli Biswas Found Dead Rupam Islam Pays Tribute
2 min readChandramouli Biswas, former bassist of the popular Bengali rock band Fossils died by suicide on Sunday. His body was found hanging from a rented house in Indian Mirror Street in Kolkata. He was 48 at the time of his demise. His friend Mehul was the first one to discover his body. He recalled the incident and said, “I hadn’t been able to reach Chandramouli on the phone since morning. The phone kept ringing, and I grew worried. So, I went to his house with another friend in the afternoon, and that’s when I saw him hanging from a fan.”
Reportedly, a suicide note has also been recovered, which has now been sent for handwriting analysis. It is said that he was suffering from depression and was undergoing therapy for the same.
Fossils’ members were on their way to Kalyani, West Bengal when they got the news. Rupam Islam, the frontman addressed the audience and said, “We have performed on this stage 21 times. Out of these, the picture of the person who was with us 16 times is on the screen behind us. When we came here, we received a piece of news in the car and that news hit us like a thunderbolt. In such a situation, no one can sing. No one can play an instrument. But the Bengali rock crowd is in front of us. Chandra was our companion for a long time. I have no hesitation in saying today that he was my best friend. We were in touch until last year.”
Chandramouli Biswas was a part of Fossils from 2008 to 2018. The band revolutionized rock music in Bengal. He was also associated with other bands such as Golak and Zombie Cage Control.
