EXCLUSIVE: Shabana Azmi on Javed Akhtar remembering only her birthday

Shabana Azmi turns 74 years old today. The actress is lauded for her beautiful performances in Indian cinema that continue to entertain generations of movie lovers. During an exclusive interview with Filmfare, the actress had opened up about her loving relationship with her husband Javed Akhtar and revealed a special thing about their marriage.
Opening up further, Azmi also quipped that Javed Akhtar does not remember any special dates except her birthday. “He also has a hard time remembering any special dates except for my birthday. And despite my protests insists on making an occasion out of it,” she heart-warmingly added.
The actress delved into their loving marriage, while noting that the lyricist “raises his fangs like a cobra and says, ‘Don’t you dare come near my wife’!” when she seems to be in trouble. She termed their marriage as a “secure” space for her. She also noted that the secret to their long and healthy marriage lies in not meeting too often. “Javed and I never meet. So, where’s the question of fighting? Girls come up to me saying, ‘You’re married to a man who writes such romantic songs. How romantic must he be!’ I say he doesn’t have a single romantic bone in his body. (Laughs) His logic is, if you’re a circus artiste and if you perform trapeze, do you hang upside down in your own house too? There’s nothing romantic about our relationship.
