Kiran Rao and Aamir Khans Laapataa Ladies is out of the Oscars 2025 race

India’s official entry to Oscars 2025, Laapataa Ladies is officially out of the race. The entry was submitted in the Best Foreign Language Film category. Laapataa Ladies, directed by Kiran Rao and produced by Aamir Khan Productions, Kindling Pictures, and Jio Studios, premiered in theatres on March 1, 2024. The film features performances by Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ranta, Sparsh Shrivastava, Ravi Kishan, and Chhaya Kadam.

However, two other Hindi language films, namely Santosh and Anuja have made it to the Oscars nominations. Santosh stars Shahana Goswami as the titular widow-turned-cop who inherits her husband’s position as a police constable after he dies. It is helmed by British-Indian filmmaker Sandhya Suri. Anuja is a live-action short about a precocious 9-year-old working in a Delhi garment factory. Guneet Monga and Mindy Kaling are the executive producers of the film. Adam J. Graves is the director.
