Malayalam writer filmmaker MT Vasudevan Nair passes away
1 min readMalayalam author and filmmaker MT Vasudevan Nair passed away at the age of 91. He reportedly died at a private hospital in Kerala’s Kozhikode district.
As per reports, MT Vasudevan Nair was admitted to the hospital for a few days due to breathing difficulties. According to the hospital’s statement, he received intensive medical care to improve his heart function and keep his vital signs stable.
Nair was born in 1933 in Kudallur, Kerala. Over the span of his career, Nair wrote nine novels, nineteen short story collections and worked on around fifty film scripts. He also had six directorials.
MT Vasudevan Nair made notable contributions to Malayalam cinema as a screenwriter and director of films like Nirmalayam, Kadavu, and Oru Vadakkan Veeragadh, among others. He earned several accolades including the Jnanpith Award which is India’s highest literary honour. He also won National Film Awards and the Kendra Sahitya Akademi Award.
