Millie Bobby Brown slams media for scrutinising her appearance

2 min read

Millie Bobby Brown is calling out the media for obsessing over her looks instead of focusing on her work. The Stranger Things star slammed certain publications for picking apart her face, body, and choices, calling it “bullying” rather than real journalism. This came after people started talking about her new blonde hair during promotions for her upcoming Netflix movie, The Electric State, with some saying it made her look older. In an Instagram video, she said it’s disturbing that adult writers spend time criticizing her appearance and urged people to do better—not just for her, but for all young girls who shouldn’t have to fear being judged just for growing up.

She opened up about how hard it’s been to grow up in front of the world. Brown, who started acting at 10 and became famous as Eleven in Stranger Things, said people refuse to accept that she’s not a kid anymore. She pointed out that some still expect her to look the same as she did in the first season, and because she doesn’t, she’s now a target for criticism. Now 21, she highlighted several articles that unfairly judged her appearance, including one questioning if she had done something to her face and another comparing her to a mother while she was out with her younger sister.

Brown made it clear that she won’t apologize for growing up. She said she refuses to change herself to meet unrealistic expectations or let people shame her for how she looks, dresses, or presents herself. She called out the pressure placed on young women in the industry, saying it’s unfair that they’re expected to stay the same while being constantly judged. Instead, she’s embracing who she is and won’t let negativity bring her down.

Many celebrities showed their support in the comments. Actress Emma Caulfield, known for Buffy the Vampire Slayer, sent Brown love and called her “sunshine & light.” Others also stood by her, agreeing that young women in Hollywood deserve to be treated with more kindness and respect.
