Priyanka Chopras Mom Breaks Silence On Deepika Replacing Her In Ram-Leela

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Goliyon Ki Raasleela: Ram-Leela featured Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh in lead roles. Priyanka Chopra Jonas also made an appearance in the film in a dance number. A lesser-known fact about the film is that Deepika Padukone replaced Priyanka as the female lead. In a recent interview, Priyanka’s mother, Madhu Chopra, shared some details about the decision.

Speaking with Lehren Retro, Madhu Chopra opened up about time Priyanka made the decision to feature in Ram-Leela. She explained that Priyanka met with Sanjay Leela Bhansali in his office. When she returned, she told her mother that she is only doing a song sequence in Ram-Leela. When Madhu asked what happened, she simply replied, “I think that’s better.”

Madhu shared that Priyanka made a well-thought-out decision after her chat with Bhansali. “They might have had some lovely discussions that she agreed to do it this way because they are still friends,” Madhu added.

Madhu further shared that despite losing out on the lead role, Priyanka did not have a “revenge attitude.” She was even offered the lead role in Mary Kom, which was produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

Madhu Chopra also reflected on Priyanka’s performance in Bajirao Mastani alongside Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh. The film saw her play the role of Kashibai. Madhu revealed that the role was emotionally demanding, with close-up shots requiring intense expressions. She was all praise for Priyanka’s dedication while filming for the movie.

Priyanka Chopra Jonas’ upcoming projects

On the work front, Priyanka Chopra recently wrapped up shooting for her upcoming action-thriller, The Bluff. The film will see her star alongside Karl Urban. She will also feature in the action-comedy Heads of State with John Cena and Idris Elba.
