2025 is shaping up to be a busy year for movie buffs. The release calendar is a mix of highly anticipated sequels, superhero films and intriguing live-action adaptations. Among the big releases is Marvel’s Thunderbolts and The Fantastic Four: First Family. Parasite director Bong Joon Ho’s next starring Robert Pattinson is also hitting theatres this year.

Captain America: Brave New World

Another live-action adaptation releasing in 2025 is Snow White. Starring Rachel Zegler as the titular princess and Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen, the reimagining will offer a fresh take on the timeless fairytale.

Mickey 17
From the award-winning director of Parasite, Bong Joon-ho, Mickey 17 is a sci-fi epic based on Edward Ashton’s novel. The film features The Batman star Robert Pattinson and delves into the life of an expendable worker on a colonised planet. The trippy trailer for film teases themes of survival and identity.

Thunderbolts
The Marvel Cinematic Universe gets a team of anti-heroes and villains with Thunderbolts. It marks the return of Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova, Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes, and David Harbour’s Red Guardian. The trailer teases a scene in the Avenger’s Tower and it’s enough to garner buzz for the film.

This is going to be a big moment for Tom Cruise and action genre fans as Cruise returns for the final film from the Mission: Impossible franchise. The film is expected to deliver more death-defying stunts, high-octane action and emotion as Ethan Hunt goes on one last mission.

How to Train Your Dragon (Live-Action)
Beloved animated film How to Train Your Dragon is getting a live-action adaptation this year. The makers recently shared a first look at Hiccup and Toothless and it exceeds expectations. The film features Mason Thames, Gerard Butler, Nico Parker and others in key roles.

Jurassic World: Rebirth
Another franchise film that’s coming up this year is Jurassic Park. Rebirth starring Black Widow actress Scarlet Johansson and Bridgerton’s Jonathan Bailey marks a new chapter. It revolves around an expedition to extract DNA from pre-historic creatures. While details are under wraps, this film will explore the coexistence of humans and dinosaurs.

Superman
James Gunn’s Superman is his take on the Man of Steel. Starring David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman, the film will explore the superhero through a fresh perspective. Its star-studded cast includes Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn and Ebon Moss-Bachrach.

Wicked: Part Two – Too Good
After Wicked, a sprawling musical starring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, a follow-up film is set to release this year. The sequel will unfold the second act of the Broadway musical as Elphaba is declared an enemy by the Wizard and Madame Morrible.
