Vasan Bala takes responsibility for Jigras underperformance

Alia Bhatt and Vedang Raina’s Jigra failed to live up to the hype at the box office. It became Alia’s lowest box office opener ever. Now, the director of the film Vasan Bala has opened up about the film’s underperformance and taken the entire blame on himself.
Talking about the film, he said, “She (Alia) is the first choice for everyone. She could have been on any other film set, but Jigra, during that time. So she has to make that choice. And she has trusted me with that choice. So it is my responsibility to deliver box office because we are in the business of filmmaking also.”
He continued, “So which is why I need to analyse. Something has happened, right? Something has happened where people have stayed away, something that they have not bought, something that they didn’t feel the need to come to the theatre. If at all any other actor decides to give their time, his or her, then you know, make it worth it.”

Jigra follows the story of a troubled young woman who embarks on a journey to rescue her brother from a foreign jail after he is wrongfully implicated in a drug case.
Besides Alia Bhatt and Vedang Raina, the film also stars Manoj Pahwa, Rahul Ravindran, Vivek Gomber and Harshh A. Singh among others.
