Vettaiyan box office: Rajinikanths film inches towards Rs 130 crore

Megastar Rajinikanth’s Vettaiyam has achieved a landmark at the Indian box office. On its opening day, the film earned approximately Rs 30 crore (nett) domestically and marked the second biggest opening for a Tamil film this year, after  Vijay’s The Greatest Of All Time (GOAT). It earned around Rs 122 crore in its first week but the collection dropped following that. On its second Friday, the collection dipped a bit but it picked up on Saturday. On its second Saturday, the Tamil version of the film earned Rs 3.62 crore, the Telugu version earned Rs 0.6 crore and the Hindi version minted 0.25 crore. The domestic collection of the film now stands at Rs 129.25 crore and by the end of the day, the film is likely to cross the Rs 130 mark in India.

Globally, the collection stands at Rs 225 crore as of yet. The T J Gnanavel directorial follows an IPS officer (Rajinikanth) who takes on the drug mafia. However, things take a serious turn when the woman who tipped him off about the drugs gets raped and murdered.

The film also stars Fahadh Faasil, Rana Daggubati, Manju Warrier, and Ritika Singh in key roles.
